How to get started

Follow these 4 simple steps to get up and running.

1

Enable tips in Settings

Open the app and go to Settings > Tips. Toggle on "Enable Tips" to activate the tipping feature for all transactions. Tips are disabled by default, so you have full control over when to offer them.

2

Choose your tip presets

Select percentage-based presets (like 15%, 20%, 25%) or fixed dollar amounts (like $1, $2, $5). You can also enable a custom tip option so customers can enter any amount they choose.

3

Collect tips at checkout

When you complete a sale, the tip screen appears automatically. The customer can tap a preset, enter a custom amount, or skip tipping entirely. Tips are added to the total charge seamlessly.

4

View tip reports

Track your tip earnings over time in the Stripe Dashboard. Tips appear as metadata on each transaction, making it easy to see totals by day, week, or month for payroll or tax purposes.

Common questions

Are tips included in my Stripe processing fees?
Yes, Stripe processes the total amount including the tip as a single transaction. Your standard Stripe processing fee applies to the full amount including the tip.
Can I set different tip options for different products?
Tip settings apply globally to all transactions in the app. If you need different tip configurations, you can quickly adjust the presets in Settings before each transaction type.
How do tips appear on customer receipts?
Receipts show the subtotal, tip amount, and total separately. This provides transparency for customers and creates a clear record for your accounting.
Can customers tip after the transaction is complete?
Tips must be added during checkout before the charge is processed. If a customer wants to add a tip afterward, you would need to process it as a separate transaction.
