How to get started

Follow these 4 simple steps to get up and running.

1

Set your default settlement currency

Your default currency is determined by your Stripe account's country. This is the currency you'll receive payouts in. You can view your settlement currency in Settings > Account.

2

Accept payments in any supported currency

When creating a charge, select the customer's preferred currency from the currency picker. Stripe supports 135+ currencies, from major currencies like USD, EUR, and GBP to regional currencies like BRL, INR, and THB.

3

Let Stripe handle currency conversion

Stripe automatically converts foreign currency payments to your settlement currency. The conversion happens at the time of the charge using Stripe's competitive exchange rates, with a small conversion fee.

4

View multi-currency reports

Track payments across all currencies in your Stripe Dashboard. You'll see the original charge amount in the customer's currency and the converted amount in your settlement currency.

Common questions

What currencies can I accept?
You can accept payments in any of the 135+ currencies supported by Stripe. Popular currencies include USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, and many more. The full list depends on your Stripe account's country.
How does currency conversion work?
When a customer pays in a different currency than your settlement currency, Stripe automatically converts the payment at the current exchange rate. The conversion fee is typically 1% above the base exchange rate.
What currency will I receive in my bank account?
You'll always receive payouts in your settlement currency, which is determined by your Stripe account's country. For example, if you're based in the US, you'll receive USD regardless of what currency your customers paid in.
Can I display prices in the customer's local currency?
Yes! When creating a charge or product, you can set the price in any supported currency. This helps international customers see prices in familiar terms without needing to do mental math.
